Setting up development environment is no longer just installing dependencies and clicking run. Todays applications rely on databases, queues, APIs, containers, cloud services, and even hardware. Local development is often treated as an afterthought and it shouldn’t be. In this talk, we’ll explore what modern development environments really consist of, why setup is a hidden cost, how to make environments reproducible, how to speed up workflows with partial systems, and how these ideas extend even into embedded development through emulation.
Organizations invest heavily in systems, processes, and training. Yet the most valuable knowledge still moves from person to person. How do you transfer tacit knowledge? How do you prevent people from repeating the same mistakes? How do good ideas become great ones? The answer starts with understanding where learning actually happens. Learning rarely happens solely through doing. Reflection and the refinement of knowledge play an equally important role. Knowledge grows richer when experiences are challenged and refined through dialogue. In this keynote, Heini Pensar challenges the audience to rethink mentoring as a leadership tool rather than a separate development programme. The session also explores innovative forms of mentoring and asks a question: who is actually teaching whom?

AI agents are among the most talked-about developments in technology, yet many lack useful mental models for understanding their potential and limitations. Johan Westö will explain the logic behind AI agents, the workflows already being used to augment and automate work, and the developments likely to drive the next wave of productivity gains. The goal is to equip attendees with the knowledge needed to evaluate their own processes, identify where and how agents can create value, and rethink how work may be done in the near future. Johan leads the Intelligent Systems Institute at Novia and has more than 10 years of experience in AI, machine learning, data science, research, and engineering.
